Damon’s Sketch Dump, Stumptown 2013
Posted By Damon on May 2, 2013
I went to Stumptown Comics Festival in Portland, OR this past weekend, and a good time was had by me. Here are some portrait sketches I did in my little book thing that holds sketches. These were drawn from life with ballpoint pen. I’m gonna write some notations like a diary so I can look back on these entries from the far future, after the singularity has occurred and humanity has been crushed under metal terminator feet, but a rag tag group has survived including me, and somehow we backed up the internet for me to fondly peruse this entry, and this is getting too complicated I better stop, now I’m really stressed out about my unfortunate far future. My sympathies to myself, from the past.
This first one is not from my Stumptown trip, I drew John months ago sitting next to him at a Seattle art meetup called “Dune.” I spent about 60 seconds on this sketch, in contrast, I spent 20 to 30 minutes on the rest of these in Portland, which you can tell ’cause they got more lines, I guess.
I drew Farel from the audience at the Meathaus reunion panel at Stumptown, below is a picture by Glenn Peters of the panel and you can see me in the orange shirt drawing Farel, so now my alibi will hold up in court.

This was drawn Saturday night at dinner in a Thai restaurant in downtown Portland with Matt and Brendan. I had the veggie egg rolls appetizer.
At breakfast Sunday with Matt and Brendan, who is a saint among kings for giving me a couch to crash on for Stumptown, so I feel bad that this is not the best likeness. We joked that it’s Paul Giamatti playing Brendan. A good joke.
I drew Dash at a panel he gave on Sunday about his work. There is something about this sketch seriously bugging me right now that I want to fix, but I already scanned it, and I’ve got deadlines to worry about, so I will broadcast my shame to the universe, unfettered.
